ANNUAL PARISH MEETING (APM – ALSO KNOWN AS THE VESTRY MEETING)
Meeting opened by Rev. D. Clues with prayer.
Minutes of previous Vestry Meeting. No matters arising. Minutes approved.
ELECTION OF CHURCH WARDENS
Rev. Clues wished to record huge thanks to Mrs. Holland and Mr. Hocking for their stewardship of
both Churches over the past year, and many previous years.
Mrs. T. Bessell acknowledged that the present churchwardens have done an incredible job.
However she understood that Church wardens should only hold post for six years. Rev. Clues
advised that this is guidance only and can be waived. He stated that the PCC will need to consider
appropriate replacements over the next year and would prefer Mrs. Holland and Mr. Hocking to
continue for this year by way of stability. However he stressed that succession is necessary to avoid
losing an incredible legacy due to age. Mrs. Bessell concurred but felt that replacements should be
sought sooner rather than later, fresh blood would be good. Mrs. Truan stated that without the
Churchwardens we wouldn’t have a church today. Mrs. Bessell stressed a deputy is urgently
required but Rev. Clues doesn’t wish to intervene at this point and would prefer the PCC to find a
way forward. Rev. Clues referred to his duty of care to the Churchwardens.
Mr. Hocking (St. Piran’s) and Mrs. Holland (St. Michael’s) were duly re-elected.
ANNUAL PAROCHIAL CHURCH MEETING (APCM)
Minutes of previous APCM were summed up by Rev. Clues. Mrs. Clarke said they had not been
available to the congregation. Mr. hocking advised they had been posted on the Parish Website for
at least six months. Minutes approved.
Vice Chair Retiring Vice Chair Mr. J. Bessell wished to record his thanks to all those who continue to
give time to making our parish inclusive and forward thinking.
Churchwarden Report. Mr. Hocking read his report. No queries raised. Rev. Clues offered a vote of
thanks.
Churchwarden Report. Mrs. Holland read her report. No queries raised. Rev. Preston offered a
vote of thanks.
Treasurers Report. Mr. Lampier read his report and summarised the accounts. Stated that the
current position is reasonable. Rev. Clues offered a vote of thanks.
Tower Report. The Secretary read the report. Rev. Clues offered a vote of thanks to the bellringers
and said it was a particular pleasure to have a ring of bells in churches throughout the Cluster.
Safeguarding. Mrs. B. Matthews the safeguarding officer resigned earlier this year. No replacement
has yet been found. Following the previous PCC Meeting Mrs. C. Harrison (Cubert) was asked
whether she would be willing to cover as our designated officer. She has agreed but the
appointment of an aide on this PCC is needed.
Rev. Clues recorded his grateful thanks to both Mrs. R. Matthews and Mrs. Harrison.
Vicars Report. Rev. Clues reported he has now been in post for six months. “It would be remiss not
to say how incredibly grateful I am to be here and amongst people I have grown to love very quickly.
Rarely have I been welcomed so warmly and generously. Thanks to all.” This was an unknown
journey but I feel very grateful to be here. On 1 st May Bishop Hugh offered me the job while I was
travelling home and I wanted to come immediately. After six months I truly appreciate the support I
have received throughout the Atlantic Coast Cluster. Thanks to all for being part of this community,
thank you for embracing me. I am confident that with Gods providence we will get where we need
to be.
Election of officers PCC
The advice is ideally a PCC should have a rolling membership in order to maintain fresh blood and
maintain succession. Rev. Clues stated it was important to follow this guidance.
Four nominations for new members of the PCC have been received; Mr. K. Lambert, Mrs. B. Procter,
Mrs. M. Harland, Mrs. M. Mitchell. There is a total of 54 on the Electoral Roll, therefore we can
nominate nine members of the PCC plus two churchwardens and two Deanery Synod
representatives.
Assuming that the current five members continue the additional four nominees will take us to a full
compliment. All members were approved en bloc.
Proposed: Mr. T. Hocking
Seconded: Mrs. M. Truan
General. Mrs. Bessell enquired whether the Vice Chair or Safeguarding roles would be filled. Rev.
Clues advised this needs to be agreed by the PCC.
Mrs. C. Drake received grateful thanks for fulfilling her role as organist for 50 years.
Mr. Holland sought a specification for the new notice board needed at St. Michael’s
Mrs. Bessell suggested our communications are improved. Our younger community need to know
what is achieved in our churches; action is required. Rev. Clues stated that the younger generation
should be considered the church of today, not tomorrow and we should engage is whatever way is
best achieved. Do not forget not everyone has access to tech.
Mrs. Thorn requested a biennial cleaning of the windows in the Chyverton Aisle.
Meeting closed with The Grace.
